(CMR) Cayman swimmers have been on a winning streak at the CARIFTA Games Swimming Championships in the Bahamas, winning over one dozen medals so far in the competition.
On Sunday, Cayman won gold in the 400m freestyle relays for both girls and boys. Harper Barrowman and James Alison also struck gold in their individual events, the 200m freestyle. Sierrah Braodbelt finished second in the 50m butterfly.
Sunday's outstanding performance was a continuation of the extraordinary display of talent by the Caymanian swimmers on Saturday.
Jillian Crooks raced to gold in a record-breaking time of 1:00.02 in the 100m Butterfly, erasing the record she set earlier in the preliminary round. Sierrah Broadbelt claimed silver in the event.
Harper successfully defended her 800m Free title in the 15-17-year-old category, while Riley Watson earned bronze in the 13-14 girls age group.
Lennox Turnham-Wheatly took silver with a scintillating performance in the 13-14-year-old 1500m Free. Will Sellars and Connor Macdonald added silver and bronze in the 15-17-year-old category.
Kaitlyn Sullivan and Dominic Hilton shined with medal swims in the 200m Breaststroke, with Kaitlyn taking bronze in the 15-17-year-old girls category and Dominic securing silver in the 15-17 boys race. In the 13-14-year-old 50m Backstroke, Luke Higgo battled to a bronze medal.
Azania Osborne, Kylen McLean, and Shaelisa Stewart were among many first-time participants who did well in their final heats.
The Cayman quartet of Jillian, Sierrah, Harper, and Sofia Bonati led from start to finish to take gold in the 4×100 Free relay, while Kylen McLean, Noah Watson, Tito Higgo, and Liam Minneboo secured bronze in their relay effort.
Cayman has also been mining medals in the artistic swimming competition so far, winning 4 gold, 8 silver, and 2 bronze medals. The Cayman 12U team performed their “Jungle” routine, achieving a silver medal, while the Youth team performed their “Dumtek” routine, taking gold.
In addition, the Cayman Islands Youth team achieved the “Youth” category high points award for the second year in a row.
