(CMR) Minister of Health and Wellness Sabrina Turner said a Psychiatrist Nursing Assistant (PNA) Training Program is being developed to provide employment opportunities for Caymanians who desire to work as PNAs at the Poinciana Rehabilitation Centre.
The program is expected to be launched within the next month, the Minister revealed in Parliament on Monday as she responded to questions about the opening of the Poinciana Rehabilitation Centre.
“This training will help to develop our local workforce and to provide them with an opportunity to obtain employment in Mental Health Services locally,” Turner said.
In the meantime, the Minister said the Poinciana Rehabilitation Centre is now expected to be opened in the second quarter of this year after an electrical fault was detected during the electrical inspection, causing a delay of an additional six to eight weeks.
Turner was responding to a request from Barbara Connolly, MP for George Town South, for a status update on the Poinciana Rehabilitation Centre and the expected handover date of the facility to the Government. She also asked for the number of staff presently hired to operate the facility once it has opened and the expected date of facility opening.
Minister Turner also shared that the staff composite is currently three persons, including the facility director and two human resources personnel, to facilitate the recruitment of the 47 budgeted vacancies in 2024 and an additional 15 in 2025.
