(CMR) The Cayman Islands national men's team secured their first win in years to move into second in Group B with four points after beating the US Virgin Islands 2-1 in the CONCACAF Nations League on Tuesday.
This has placed Cayman in a good position to get https://caymanmarlroad.com/2023/10/19/97744/League C’s fourth promotion slot to League B in the 2024-2025 Nations League. Aruba, which won Cayman 2-1 last month, leads the group at 2-0-0 (six points) .
Cayman beat the USVI during their game at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex, extending the USVI's winless streak in international play to seven consecutive matches.
The USVI’s last win came on June 6, 2022, a 3-2 victory over the Turks and Caicos Islands in a Nations League group-play match.
After their 2-2 draw in the first meeting on September 7, the Cayman Islands came out pressuring the USVI National Team’s defense from the start.
The USVI had an early scoring opportunity from Matthew Roth, who had his close-in shot in the 10th minute; however, it was saved by Caymans goalkeeper Lachlin Lambert.
In the first half alone, the Cayman Islands outshot the U.S. Virgin Islands. That offensive pressure allowed the Cayman Islands to put the first point on the scoreboard, coming in the 17th minute when Elijah Seymour right-footed a feed from teammate Zachary Scott past USVI goalkeeper Dylan Ramos for a 1-0 lead.
The Cayman Islands gave itself a cushion early in the second half when Scott picked up his second assist of the match. Scott put a breakaway pass to Christhofer Nunez, who poked it past Ramos in the 57th minute for a 2-0 lead.
