(CMR) Cayman Islands watercraft rider Cline Glidden was victorious in the AM 300 class at the SBT P1 AquaX LakeFest held over the weekend, 29-30 July, in La Porte, Indiana.
According to P1 AquaX, more than 160 riders entered to participate to compete in the SBT P1 AquaX LakeFest race event featuring the IJSBA Closed Course National Championship and the Great Lakes Watercross.
The event was the second round of the P1 AquaX enduro series for amateur racers, and it produced two days of epic battles, great celebrations and some heartbreak.
Major Tom Dermody started the opening AquaX race, and spectators were treated to a Le Mans-style start. Valentina Lezcano responded by taking off with blistering speed together with Mathew Smith but, after staying ahead of the field for most of the race, Smith missed two buoys and it cost him dearly. Eric Diaz battled with Canadian young gun, Nathan Dalli – who shows great potential and is definitely one to watch in the future – and at the end of the race it was Lezcano who took the honors ahead of Carson Peterson and Eric Diaz.
The second race brought heartbreak for Lezcano when she suffered a mechanical failure, and it was Cayman Islands rider Cline Glidden who triumphed, followed by Diaz and Peterson. Glidden’s great form continued in the following race to put him on the top step of the podium for the weekend. Kevin Sullivan achieved second place in race 3 with Nathan Dalli claiming third.

The overall placings in the AM 300 class saw American rider Peterson and Canada’s Connor Morrison finishing in second and third place behind Glidden.
In the AM 200 class, USA racer Andrew Ray took the top spot ahead of Melvin Canals from Puerto Rica.
“We would like to thank the City of LaPorte and Visit Michigan City LaPorte for their warm welcome and superb hospitality. We enjoyed joining forces with Great Lakes Watercros to race on Stone Lake,” said P1 Championship Manager Michelle Petro.
Round 3 of the SBT P1 AquaX series will see the riders heading to Daytona Beach of Florida’s Atlantic Coast on the weekend of August 19-20.
