(CMR) A 39-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of an unlicensed firearm after police seized an illegal gun in George Town earlier this week.
Reports are that just after 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, 26 November, officers from the RCIPS Firearm Response Unit had cause to attend a location on Eastern Avenue, George Town, where it was believed that illegal activities involving the use of an unlicensed firearm had taken place. When officers arrived, they observed a vehicle that appeared to have damage consistent with gunshots and carried out a search of the vehicle and the surrounding area.
The next day, an extensive daylight search of the grounds was carried out, resulting in the recovery of spent cartridge cases and one 9mm semi-automatic handgun.
The 39-year-old man, from George Town, was arrested and has been bailed pending ongoing inquiries.
