(CMR) Cayman Islands athletes Jordan Crooks, Harper Barrowman, and Jillian Crooks displayed top-class performances at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan.
Although they did not medal, the athletes broke several records and set new personal bests. Jillian improved her personal best in the Women’s 50m Freestyle from 25.87 to 25.66 for second place in her heat. She improved on her own CIASA & NATIONAL Records and finished 32 out of 102 athletes in the event.
Jillian also set a new 100m freestyle personal best and national record with 55.23, making her the fastest CARIFTA junior of all time.
Jordan shattered fellow Caymanian swimmer Shaune Fraser's national 100-meter freestyle record with 47.77, breaking the 14-year record of 48.47 seconds. He finished sixth in the 50m Freestyle Final after clocking a personal best of 21.73, down from 22.20 seconds.
Jordan leaves the Championships with two Olympic ‘A’ Qualifying times, Lifetime Best Times in the 100 and 50 LCM Freestyle, where he is now ranked seventh and sixth, respectively, and with new CIASA and NATIONAL Records.
Barrowman set a new personal best in the 400m Freestyle at the World Championships with 4:26.88. She followed this up with a personal best in the Women's 200m Freestyle with a time of 2:06.49.
