(CMR) The Director of Public Prosecution's (DPP) office began its case Wayne Carlos Myles AKA Beenie (39) Monday in Grand Court. He is accused of being a pimp and running a prostitution ring. He is charged with nine counts of living or attempting to live off the earnings of prostitutes over a two-year period from mid 2014 to 2016.
The DPP allegeds that he had upwards of 32 women and was offering sexual favors to at least 15 customers and charging up to CI$500. The Crowne's case is largely based on phone records that were apparently discovered during a separate drug investigation. It is alleged he was promoting the girls via messenger apps and sending photos to potential clients on several phones. He was also said to be messaging about various price negotiations in the same messages as well as arranging meetings and taking this portion out of the payment.
As she opened her case against Myles, Fargin said that there would be no evidence from the prostitutes or even the men paying them, and the crown made it clear they intended to avoid identifying the sex-workers involved.
She said the trial was solely about “the control, direction or influence” that prosecutors say Myles had over the women and the money they were earning for the sexual services, and no judgments would be made about the morality or otherwise of prostitution.
It was also alleged that Myles used the girls for his own sexual gratification and give himself a significant discount for his services.
This is seen as a historic case as there is no known similar case brought against a pimp i this jurisdiction. Myles has denied all charges, refuting that his nickname is “Beenie” or that the phone was his. He was originally charged in February 2017.
