(CMR) QUESTION: I saw this Cobra snake by The Doctor's Hospital on Friday around 1:00 pm. It scared the shit out of me cause I was standing back on to it until I turn around I saw it
ANSWER: LIKELY FALSE: We contacted the Department of Environment and spoke to the local snake expert. They informed us that:
“Unfortunately the quality of the photograph is too poor to allow an absolutely certain identification, Sandra. However, the image is consistent with it being a native racer, Cubophis caymanus. The larger ones often flatten their necks like that. They are harmless, and mostly eat frogs and lizards.”
There are four different types of snakes native to the Cayman Islands. No Cayman snakes pose any threat to people, cats or dogs! You can find out more about them directly on DOE's website.
