(CMR) Montserrat beat the Cayman Islands in a 2-1 win this weekend at the Ed Bush Stadium in West Bay advancing to a possible Gold Cup spot in the CONCACAF Nations League Qualifying games. Montserrat now has nine points and sits seventh in the 34-team table.
The much-anticipated match was part of Week 4 of 2019-20 Concacaf Nations League Qualifying games. The Emerald Boys will await the results of the week’s other matches to find out if it has qualified for a first-ever Gold Cup.
Adrian Clifton converted a penalty in the 40’ to hand Montserrat a lead, but the hosts would answer in the 49’ through Marks Ebanks. In a tournament in which Montserrat has used great goals to reach new heights, Bradley Woods would add his own touch of magic with a right-footed rocket in the 66’ to earn the Emerald Boys the triumph.
In other qualifying games, the U.S. Virgin Islands saved its best performance in CNLQ for last, with a 3-0 win over Anguilla at the Raymond E. Guishard Technical Centre in The Valley, Anguilla.
James Mack scored the U.S. Virgin Islands’ first goal in CNLQ when he broke the deadlock in the 15’, which was followed by a Bryce Pierre goal in the 26’.
Aaron Dennis then capped the day with a late score in the 86’ to earn the three points.
That was followed by a thrilling encounter between Saint Lucia and Aruba in which Saint Lucia emerged victorious 3-2 at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua.
Jevick MacFarlane scored the first of his two goals in the 38’ only for Joshua John to pull Aruba level in the 53’. MacFarlane struck again in the 63’ followed by a Lester Joseph goal in the 66’ to give Saint Lucia a two-goal lead.
Aruba would not quit though, as Joshua Gross scored in the 93’ to cut the lead to one, however, Saint Lucia would hold on for the three points.
Tomorrow Dominica plays the Bahamas.
