(CMR) PC Ian James Harding (39), a police officer with the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service, was found deceased in the Hampshire, England this morning after an apparent suicide by hanging. He was said to be on unpaid leave from the local police service but was due to return in a few weeks.
Exclusive CMR sources indicate PC Harding was a Public Order Instructor and Trainer with the Training Development Unit (TDU). He was due to return to the service on March 1, 2020. Our sources further indicate his desire was to actually leave the RCIPS and return back home permanently. He had served as a police officer in the UK for over 12-years before moving to the Cayman Islands and noted that his area of expertise was Operational, Tactical, Planning and Training side of Public Order and Public Safety. Which included the reviewing, testing, and writing of policies and risk assessments.
Formerly with the Surrey Police Department, he had received a divisional commendation for his tenacity and determination supporting residents of Cobham who had been plagued by anti-social behavior. Here he worked under Superintendent Walker.
Whilst some may be shocked by his untimely passing; others close to PC Harding are not surprised as he appeared to be suffering from depression at the time and was described as not being happy here. He had recently removed his social media accounts and was described as being a loner. He had only been with the RCIPS for some 8 months.
PC Harding was a pro bodybuilder and was very passionate about the gym. PC Harding was said to have recently scrubbed his social media accounts and removed them.
