UPDATE: The Ministry of Education and Department of Education Services has advised that Clifton Hunter High School will resume face-to-face classes tomorrow, March 19, following the successful repair of the leak in the pipes carrying chilled water to the institution's air conditioning system.
(CMR) Clifton Hunter High School suspended classes this morning, 18 March, to carry out repair works to fix a major underground leak in pipes carrying chilled water to the air conditioning system at the school.
At the start of the school year, CMR received several complaints about the AC unit not working properly, with students having to endure very hot classrooms. However, the school sent out a report following these complaints, stating that the issue was fixed.
On Monday, the Ministry of Education and the Department of Education Services said the facilities team is working to address the issue which requires excavation to fix. As such, school buildings will be without a/c today, and school buses will return to Clifton Hunter High School at 8:30 am to transport students home.
The Ministry said parents may also collect students from the school at this time and that the school will implement measures for delivering remote instruction where applicable.
The Ministry of Education and Department of Education Services has also apologized for the inconvenience caused.
There have also been numerous concerns about the poor condition of the carpet at the institution, with students allegedly falling ill and having to be out of school. CMR understands that there is mould which has caused an allergic reaction in both students and teachers.
