(CMR) A man who raped an 11-year-old girl twice and threatened her not to talk has been sentenced to 13 and a half years in prison; however, a court order prevents the media from publishing his name.
The man pretended to be a 14-year-old boy and used social media to befriend the child. When the child realized she was talking to an older male, she blocked him. However, the man didn't give up and continued to harass the child by creating new accounts to reach her.
He threatened her to meet him in a commercial parking lot near her home after 11 p.m., telling her that he would tell her friends and family things the bad she had been doing and things she had told him.
Justice Cheryll Richards increased the starting point of the sentence to 15 years from 10-12 years because of the victim's age. She added another six months because both rapes occurred after 11 p.m.
The sentence was reduced by two years due to personal circumstances, resulting in 13 years and six months for both counts of rape to run concurrently.
The man was given a sexual harm prevention order, requiring him to refrain from contacting the victim or any female under the age of 16, except when dealing with his child, upon release from prison.
He is not to apply for any job that would require him to work with females under the age of 16. He must also notify the police of his physical address and all associated social media profiles.
Upon his release, the order will last for 10 years. If he breaks the terms of the order, he will be subject to another four years in prison.
