(CMR) A man who was charged with the sexual assault of his 15-year-old stepdaughter was found guilty in a judge-only trial in the Cayman Islands Grand Court.
The man is expected to be sentenced in June after Justice Cheryll Richards handed down the judgment on Friday, 19 April.
The man who was charged with assault By Penetration, Gross Indecency, Engaging in Sexual Activity in the presence of a child, and Abuse of Trust had denied the allegations, stating that the child was antagonistic towards him.
However, in handing down the verdict on Friday, Justice Richards said that she found the child to be a credible witness, speaking the truth about what the defendant did to her.
“This was not a child making up a story,” she said, noting some of the horrific details the child recalled, including being able to describe the man's penis.
The child also recalled the man masturbating in front of her and ejaculating on her slippers, causing her to vomit.
The man reportedly assaulted the child when she stopped at home after school before heading to her mother's workplace. The child's principal reportedly noticed a change in her behavior at school and asked her what was wrong; the child then told the principal that her father had assaulted her, and the matter was reported to the police.
Recently, there have been a number of cases regarding the sexual abuse of children before the courts. A man who raped an 11-year-old girl twice was recently sentenced to 13.5 years in prison. Another man is also now on trial for the rape of a 13-year-old girl.
