(CMR) Cabinet recently approved a prohibited immigrant to temporarily re-enter the Cayman Islands.
CMR understands that prohibited immigrant re-entry is typically done for persons who resided in the Cayman for an extended period, didn’t get status, or had status revoked due to a criminal conviction, and still have very close familial ties to the islands. The actual grant is usually done for events like graduations of children and or other very close relatives and funerals of parents or other close relatives.
According to the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism, prohibited immigrants to Cayman include:
-Those declared destitute, mentally disordered or previously deported.
-Those creating health hazards to the community.
-Those reasonably believed to be a prostitute or living on prostitution
Those who received a prison sentence of 12+ months in another country.
-Those declared to be undesirable for economic or moral reasons.
At the February 6 meeting, Cabinet also approved the exemption of 2 persons under section 53(1)(b) of the Immigration (Transition) Act (2022 Revision). This exemption is usually made for persons who enter the Cayman Islands for work but do not present a certificate of vaccination when entering the Cayman Islands.
