(CMR) Six public sector leaders from British Overseas Territories in the Caribbean and Bermuda are in the Cayman Islands for the Heads of Public Sector Conference, which took place at the Government Administration Building in George Town from 29 to 30 April.
The two-day event, hosted by the Office of the Deputy Governor, focused on the current state of the civil and public service in the Overseas Territories, public sector reform, challenges and solutions, best practices and available toolkits for enhancing government service delivery and efficiency.
In attendance were Deputy Governor, Montserrat, Lyndell Simpson; Deputy Governor, Turks and Caicos, Anya Williams; Permanent Secretary, Turks and Caicos, Miquel Swann; Deputy Permanent Secretary, Turks and Caicos, Juliana Musgrove; Deputy Governor, Anguilla, Perin Bradley; Head of the Public Service, Bermuda, Cherie-Lyn Whitter; Deputy Governor, British Virgin Islands, David Archer along with other senior representatives from the local civil service.
Commenting on the meeting's importance, Deputy Governor Franz Manderson stated that the information and innovation that would be shared would help shape the thinking of all participants as they work together to reform and modernize the civil service to better serve the people across all territories.
“We all know that it is critical that we constantly refine our ways of working, reshape our processes, and modernize our public services to better serve our citizens and elected leaders. I am very pleased that we are hosting the discussions and exchange of ideas and experiences this year in Cayman and I am confident that my counterparts will continue to collaborate, cross-learn as we work to improve the way our governments do business,” he said.
During the conference, a number of heads of departments from the Cayman Islands Government gave presentations on various topics of mutual interest.
