(CMR) Cabinet has given approval for the Ministry of Youth, Sports, Culture & Heritage (MYSCH) to seek public consultation on the formal naming of the National Dish, Drink, Dessert, Dress, and Dance.
To celebrate this historic development, MYSCH will be launching a Cultural Identity campaign to educate the public on authentic Caymanian customs and traditions for early Caymanians and other aspects that should be considered when providing feedback during the public consultation period.
As the holiday season begins, the public is encouraged to use this time to foster dialogue with family and friends to discuss their thoughts on National Dish, Drink, Dessert, Dress and Dance, as well as slavery in the Cayman Islands.
Minister for Youth, Sports, Culture and Heritage, Hon. Bernie Bush, shared, “I am proud to be part of a Cabinet that understands the importance of cultural identity and supports my Ministry’s efforts to strengthen, safeguard and promote our cultural heritage.”
“As Cayman continues to evolve, it is important that we establish and highlight on a national level the aspects of our customs and traditions that help unify us as a people. It is my hope that over the next few months, the community will be open to engaging with the Ministry as we embark on this educational campaign,” Minister Bush stated.
Further details about the public consultation period and how the community can participate will be shared in the coming days.
The Ministry invites the public to engage with the campaign by visiting www.gov.ky/ysch, following them on Instagram @mysch_cayman on Instagram, Ministry of Youth, Sports, Culture and Heritage on Facebook, and by attending upcoming events.
