(CMR) King Charles III (75) has been diagnosed with cancer, Buckingham Palace announced Monday.
“During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer,” the palace said in an emailed statement.
Buckingham Palace did not specify what form of cancer was diagnosed or at what stage it was found.
Buckingham Palace says the King, who started treatment on Monday “remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible”.
King Charles will postpone his public engagements and it is expected other senior royals stand in for him during his treatment.
The King returned to London from Sandringham in Norfolk on Monday morning and the palace says he has commenced treatment as an outpatient.
