(CMR) The Cayman Cayman Islands Coast Guard is urging mariners to check the weather before venturing out to sea after a boat in distress with two persons on board was rescued on Saturday, August 26, 2023.
The CICG Operation Rescue Coordination Center (ORCC) was notified by 911 that a 15ft vessel with 2 individuals was experiencing difficulty east of the Rum Point Channel.
Upon receiving the distress call, a boat crew was deployed. The vessel was located approximately 2 miles east of the Rum Point Channel, and the vessel and crew were safely transported to the Rackley Canal launching ramp.
The CICG said this incident highlights the importance of mariners diligently checking weather developments, as cells can be unpredictable, which can potentially lead to difficult situations for mariners.
The Coast Guard is also reminding the public that practicing safe boating procedures and staying informed about weather conditions are essential during hurricane season and throughout the year.
