(CMR) Ogier has announced that William ‘Will' Jones, a partner in its Cayman Dispute Resolution team, died on 6 June 2023. Mr. Jones reportedly died while on vacation.
Ogier said the partners and the team at the law firm are devastated at the passing of a dear friend and colleague.
“We extend our deepest sympathy to Will's family and friends. Will was a member of the Ogier family since 2003 and played a foundational role in developing our Cayman disputes team and the Cayman practice as a whole,” the firm said.
Ogier further stated that “Will was recognized as a leader in his field by colleagues, clients and industry. He was a much loved and respected member of the Cayman community where he grew up. Will was known for his kindness and integrity, his calm manner, his encyclopedic knowledge of Cayman law, and his being a prize-winning fisherman. “
Mr. Jones was also remembered as an exceptional litigator and advocate who regularly appeared in the Grand Court of the Cayman Islands and took a number of cases up to the Privy Council.
Outside work, he was a devoted family man, husband to Joyce, and father to Maddy and Rory.
“Thank you to all those individuals and organizations who have sent condolence messages. The overwhelming response to Will's passing underscores how deeply loved and respected he was in the Cayman and wider international legal community. He was a truly great man, and it was a privilege to work alongside him,” Ogier stated.
