(CMR) The Cayman Islands Speaker of the House, the Honourable McKeeva Bush (65), is coming under immense public scrutiny after it was revealed early today that he was involved in an altercation that left a manager at Coral Beach on West Bay Road bruised after what is being described as a vicious attack last night.
Cayman Marl Road first reported on the incident late last night before the police had been contacted.
Eyewitnesses have shared that upwards of 60 persons including tourists and locals alike witnessed the onslaught which left the woman “bruised all over her arms, legs, neck and face”. Sources indicate the altercation occurred after an afternoon of drinking that started at around 4:00 pm. and earlier at Power Supply Bar.
His government-appointed driver was there with him as the official vehicle could be seen parked outside. It was shared that the manager, whilst receiving the worst of the attack, was not the only victim. HIs driver is said to have also been assaulted. However, her injuries were far more severe and required the assistance of multiple onlookers to bring it to an end.
At the time of our initial reporting of the incident, the victim had not yet reported the matter to the police and there was some doubt as to whether or not she would. However, after 12:30 am police confirmed they received a report of the assault and that the matter is now under investigation.
Many have already expressed outrage on various social media platforms about the incident calling for his immediate resignation as speaker of the Legislative Assembly and representative for West Bay
This is not the first time Bush has been involved in an alleged assault against a woman. He had charges dropped against after a July 2017 arrest in Broward Country, Florida where a woman had alleged that Bush has groped her on the rear end.
Police have indicated the matter is under investigation but Bush has not been questioned, arrested or charged as yet.
