(CMR) The RCIPS said efforts are now underway to confirm the identity with the next of kin of a Sri Lankan man whose body was recovered SW of Barkers Cay on Wednesday, two days after he went missing from a vessel in North Sound.
The Cayman Islands Coast Guard confirmed that the body was detected at 11.30 am, SW of Barkers Cay, and was recovered from the ocean shortly after 11:45 am.
Shortly before 7:30 pm, 11 October, the 9-1-1 Communications Centre received a report of a man overboard from a vessel in the North Sound. Units from the Cayman Islands Coast Guard, as well as RCIPS ground and air units and the Cayman Islands Fire Service, responded to the report and conducted an extensive search of the North Sound based on information on where the man was last seen. However, as of 11:30 pm, there was no sighting of the missing man.
The Coast Guard resumed the search on Tuesday, with continued assistance from the RCIPS Air Operations Unit and the CIFS. In addition, the assistance of private vessels equipped with Marine VHF radios was requested, and a number of private vessels joined the search.
The CICG and RCIPS would like to thank the members of the public that supported the search and rescue efforts.
