(CMR) Fire Chief Officer, David Hails, appears to be leaving his post at the end of his contract on January 31.
A farewell email was sent to all staff announcing his departure earlier today. His position was recently advertised in the local newspaper and according to the ministry he was given notice of the advert and the option to re-apply for the post. The post indicated that government is recruiting someone on an interim 12 month basis. However, based on this farewell announcement it does not appear that he will be taking them up on that offer.
Hails has been in this position since February 2016 when he accepted a three-year contract. The UK national caused a lot of controversy at the time when he became the first non-Caymanian to hold the Fire Chief position in more than 50 years.
