(CMR) The number of COVID-19 confirmed infections in Jamaica has just been updated to 196 cases as of this evening. The announcement was made late this evening after the Ministry of Health & Wellness confirmed 23 new cases since yesterday.
An additional 113 cases are under investigation; the majority of which (95) is related to a workplace cluster at a call center in St. Catherine. The government agency also confirmed that 119 persons are in isolation and 38 are min mandatory quarantine at a government facility.
Some 686 contacts are being traced by the parish health departments across the island, including 179 persons associated with the workplace cluster.
This weekend saw tensions rise in some communities as people attempted to move into other areas were denied entry. Skeptical of their COVID-19 status residents shared that they were not welcoming them and that they should go back home. Several videos and photos made the rounds on social media of residents erecting hand sanitizer and block stations that forced people to “check-in” before going into their community.
