(CMR) In a report late yesterday evening the police have finally confirmed that a serious incident happened near several schools off Olympic Way, George Town. The matter had caused a number of persons to contact CMR and we were able to ascertain that something did indeed happen in the area.
The incident prompted reports of a school lock down. However, the police have only shared that shortly after 1:00PM officers responded to a report of an assault incident in the vicinity of Olympic Way, George Town, just outside of the UCCI and CIFEC campuses.
An adult female had been assaulted by a male known to her and sustained minor scrapes and lacerations reported to have been caused by a knife. The female left the location in private vehicle and was subsequently spoken to by police and other relevant agencies.
Officers located the male suspect shortly afterwards on Olympic Way. He attempted to evade police by scaling a fence onto the John Gray campus. Officers entered the campus and began searching for the suspect, while staff assisted in ensuring students remained inside their classes. It was soon determined that the suspect had left the location and the all-clear was given. The suspect was tracked and located at an address off Walkers Road and was arrested on suspicion of Assault ABH. He is currently in police custody as investigations continue.
While St. Ignatius parents informed us that students saw the man on campus the police statement makes no mention of that school. However, their school administrators did acknowledge police presence on their campus also.
The Ministry of Education made a separate statement where they confirmed that a lock down of the John Gray campus was implemented. The statement said:
“A decision was made to implement a lock-down of the campus, which restricts movement of all students and staff until the campus is deemed safe. No contact was made with any of the students,”
The Ministry said after the RCIPS gave senior staff approval for movement to staff and students “transitioned to their final lessons without any delay or disruption to learning.”
