(CMR) The international governing body of football, FIFA, has opened disciplinary proceedings against the Cayman Islands Football Association (CIFA) over incidents related to Cayman’s World Cup qualifying match against Canada last month.
Cayman was defeated 11-0 in the match played on March 29 after being postponed a day earlier to allow the team to get the results for PCR COVID-19 tests required for the game.
FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee states that CIFA potentially breached two provisions of FIFA’s Disciplinary Code, one relating to misconduct of players and officials and the other to “order and security at matches.”
A copy of the match commissioner’s report dated March 31 accuses CIFA president Alfredo Whittaker of having a “bad attitude” and of sending incorrect PCR tests for Cayman’s players and team officials, which led to the qualifier being postponed.
The match commissioner also accuses CIFA of not providing pieces of equipment and match personnel it had agreed to provide.
Whittaker has since dismissed the allegations as not being important and said he would address them next week.
“I will address this next week, just some allegations from a match commissioner that accusing me of not being cooperative with her,” he said.
FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee will review the matter on April 15.
