(CMR) Former president of the now defunct FC International Allen Kennedy Ebanks has denied contacting a juror during the Canover Watson and Bruce Blake trial trying to influence a not guilty verdict.
When he appeared in court on Friday, 12 April, Ebanks pleaded not guilty to attempting to pervert the course of justice. A trial date was set for 2 July 2024.
Watson, former treasurer of the Cayman Islands Football Association, was accused of stealing US$1.54 million from CONCACAF in 2013, and former vice president of CIFA Bruce Blake helped him to launder this money, the court heard during the trial.
Watson was found guilty of six counts, including secret commissions, money laundering, and false accounting, while Blake was found guilty of two counts of false accounting. Blake was found not guilty of acquiring criminal property and entering an arrangement to facilitate the retention, use, or control of criminal property.
Allegations are that sometime between September 1st, 2022, and October 26th, 2022, Ebanks approached the juror, trying to influence the verdict. The court heard Friday that CCTV footage is among the evidence to be presented during the trial.
Ebanks, who is on bail, was asked to surrender his passport.
