(CMR) The Department of Environment will assess a section of the shoreline along West Bay Road to determine if damage to the seabed or shoreline occurred after a barge ran aground in the area on Saturday, 6 April.
The Cayman Islands Coast Guard (CICG) Operation Rescue Coordination Centre (ORCC) received a report of a barge that appeared to have run aground near Cresent Point Condos along West Bay Road.
Port Authority was alerted, and the owners of the barge were notified. Immediate action was taken by the owners of the barge, Rebecca VII, to have it removed from where it was resting on the coastline.
The barge was safely removed by the Tug “Bloody Bay” and was at the George Town Dock at 08:50 a.m.
Earlier this week, a ship that had lost engine power was prevented from running ground in Little Cayman by being steered away.
