(CMR) The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) said there will be increased police presence in areas affected by gun violence after several spent shell casings were recovered in West Bay on Wednesday, 14 February.
The RCIPS said just after 4:30 p.m., police were dispatched by the 9-1-1 Communications Centre to a report of shots fired in the Birch Tree Hill area of West Bay.
Officers from the Firearms Response Unit attended and made checks in the surrounding area. Several spent casings were located by the officers, and there was damage to a house and a vehicle in the area. No injuries relating to this incident were reported to the police.
A crime scene was established, and the location was processed for anything of evidential value. The officers from the Firearm Response Unit remained in the district, making checks and providing community reassurance following this incident
The incident is being investigated by the police, and anyone with information is being encouraged to call the West Bay Police Station at 949-3999.

This is the second shooting incident reported on Wednesday. Several spent shell casings were also recovered by the Cayman Islands Coast Guard near Duck Pond dock.
