(CMR) Lovell Marriott (53), who was before the court for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest in one of her 2022 protests, was conditionally discharged on Tuesday after being found guilty of the offenses.
Magistrate Philippa McFarlane warned Marriott that these charges would resurface if she committed any further offenses over the next twelve months. The magistrate also ordered Marriott to pay $100 towards the cost of the prosecution.
Marriott has a long history of protesting on numerous topics; in fact, she has returned to protesting outside The Ritz-Carlton hotel since she was conditionally discharged.
Magistrate McFarlane, in her ruling, said Marriott had behaved in the way that all of the officers described but said there were other issues at play. She also said she gave consideration to all of the evidence, including Marriott’s claims that the officers had been too rough and had targeted her because she had been protesting the authorities.
In 2022, Marriott was arrested and charged with being an Idle & disorderly person in relation to acts committed outside the Cayman Islands Government Administration Building.
In addition to recent protests, Marriott has also taken some of her issues before the courts through lawsuits, filing court documents against several people.
