(CMR) Drama unfolded on Cardinal Avenue last Friday, 29 December, when a woman stole perfumes from a store and then fought off several people as she attempted to make an escape. She was arrested by officers who were patrolling the area after pitting up some resistance.
CMR understands that the woman turned up at the store with two men who are believed to be accomplices. She was observed stealing items while the two men waited outside. When she was confronted about stealing she reportedly fought off three workers before fleeing the area.
Reports from the RCIPS are that at around 3:40 p.m., officers on foot patrol responded to a report of an altercation at a commercial store on Cardinal Avenue, where a woman was reported to have accosted staff when confronted about an attempt to steal goods from the store.
When police arrived at the location to conduct inquiries, the suspect, a 31-year-old woman of Bodden Town, fled the scene. Officers pursued her on foot and subsequently apprehended her in a parking lot, where she was arrested for the offense of Theft-Shoplifting. One officer received injuries during the arrest.
The woman was taken to the Cayman Islands Detention Centre, where she was held in custody. Police investigations continue.
