(CMR) In an episode reminiscent of Locked Up Abroad, American Lance Michael Graham (32) was ordered to pay $2,775.00 to repair a fence after a drunken night at a local Airbnb after pleading guilty in Summary Court earlier today. He blamed his erratic and violent behavior on 2 shots of cognac and elation over seeing his brother.
Graham, who claims to be a content creator and business owner, and his girlfriend, Cheyanne A. Addison (25), had a vicious domestic incident Saturday night that resulted in over $5,000 worth of damage to the property.
The property was left partly in shambles, with an entire wall being destroyed, several doors torn off the hinges, and chemical splatter damage to the floors and walls. Further, they left the place, blood splattered and broken glass on the floor of the house.
In addition to the compensation order for property damage, he was also ordered to pay $300 for resisting arrest, and the magistrate stressed that this was a serious offense against the police and seen as an attack on the rule of law. Graham claimed to be the father of an 11-year-old daughter and the sole nighttime caregiver for his bedridden mother.
Graham appeared before Chief Magistrate Valdis Foldats Tuesday afternoon, where he accepted the Crown's case against him. The court heard that he arrived in the afternoon of Saturday, November 18, and by that evening, he was in such a state that he destroyed a room in a luxury Airbnb rental before destroying part of a neighbor's fence and resisting arrest.
During the drunken incident, which lasted several hours, it was revealed that he ran off in handcuffs screaming at the police to shoot him. Additionally, he claimed that he couldn't breathe and that he suffered from asthma, anxiety, lung cancer, and other ailments. Once paramedics were called, Graham continued to resist arrest and refused medical assistance, claiming that he needed his inhaler.
In court, Graham made no mention of all of those illnesses but instead claimed that he was diabetic and drank with some medication which caused him to act out of character. During the altercation, he claimed to work for a local ABC station in New York, had lawyers on standby, and owned several Tesla vehicles.
He will remain in police custody until the restitution amount is paid in full or he obtains a surety to guarantee that it will be paid. Despite bragging about having a brother who is a “professor in the Cayman Islands,” the court heard that his brother works at the Layman Scott High School in Cayman Brac as a Jamaican coach and was unlikely to be assisting him with the matter.
For her part, Addison was acting aggressively and assaulted Graham right in front of the police while he was in handcuffs. The police did nothing to her. At one point, she claimed that when they arrived, the unit was found in a damaged state. On Monday, however, she recanted that and subsequently claimed it was in “immaculate condition.”
During the incident, investigating officer Uriel Williams initially refused to arrest the man despite substantial damage to the property. He informed the property owner that it was not a police matter because the property was listed on Airbnb. However, she contacted the sergeant on duty, who instructed him to make the arrest. Addison, who was also drunk and belligerent, was not arrested at the time and promptly left the jurisdiction later on Sunday afternoon via Jet Blue Airlines.
The property owner witnessed Addison throwing her 50lb suitcase down an entire flight of stairs; damaging several of them in the process. Exclusive sources revealed that the proper procedure would have ensured that Addison was also arrested and taken into police custody before being allowed to leave the jurisdiction. However, due to police mishandling of the matter, she was allowed to return to White Plains, New York.
Magistrate Foldats instructed that Graham has 7 days to pay the fence repair fee, and his offer in court to repair it himself was denied. He was informed that he would serve three months imprisonment for non-payment. A stop order has been put in place to prevent him from leaving this jurisdiction.
Speaking to the property owner, CMR has learned that they are prepared to hold the RCIPS responsible for professional negligence for their inability to uphold their duty of care to carry out a competent investigation. A formal complaint will also be filed.
