(CMR) The community of West Bay is on edge after a couple was reportedly brutally beaten and robbed as they were walking to their front door off Andresen Road on Friday night, 3 November.
CMR was told that two masked men approached the couple in the dark, demanding that they give them their wallets/money. Then they proceeded to beat them with a 2 by 4 and some other weapon. The police were patrolling and heard the screams and went to the rescue of the couple; however, the men managed to get away.
The police said that shortly after 11 p.m. yesterday, officers on patrol on Andresen Road in West Bay were approached by two members of the public who appeared to have been injured and who informed the officers that they had just been the victims of a robbery.
The victims had just left a residence when two men dressed in black, one of whom was carrying a gun, attacked them. A struggle ensued, during which both victims received head injuries from being struck, possibly with the firearm and another object. The culprits then fled on foot with a quantity of cash and personal items from the victims. No shots were fired during the incident.
One reportedly left on foot while the other drove off in a silver car. The couple was taken to the hospital for treatment while police conducted a search of the area with the help of a helicopter.
It is believed that the culprits disconnected the lights at the front of the property by the driveway so the area would be dark when the couple entered.
There were reports of at least four robberies taking place Friday night, with an attempted armed robbery of a store, where the owner stood up to the gunman, causing him to flee.
The officers conducted preliminary medical treatment on one of the victims, after which emergency services arrived and continued care. Both persons were taken to hospital to be treated for their injuries, and subsequently discharged.
This matter is currently under investigation, and anyone with information should contact the Criminal Investigations Department at 949-4222.
