(CMR) Premier Wayne Panton said, “The brazen daylight murder that occurred last Friday near Shedden Road in George Town speaks to a new level of criminal threat which we must quickly and aggressively confront with every tool at our disposal.”
Panton expressed sympathy to the family of Divonte Hernandez (25) on behalf of the government.
“I wish to express my sincere sympathy to the family of the victim and to reassure them (and other residents of our Islands) that the safety and security of our people remains our number one priority,” he stated.
According to the Premier, the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) is actively investigating numerous leads and working closely with members of the public to bring the perpetrators to justice.
He also pointed out that the team recently made some headway when they recovered the motor vehicle believed to be involved in the incident but said no arrests have been made in the murder.
“Indeed, the Government reaffirms its commitment to fully supporting the RCIPS and new Commissioner Kurt Walton, in whom we have the greatest confidence,” Panton continued.
He also appealed for witnesses to come forward and encouraged members of the public to contact the police's Major Incident Room at 649-2930 with any information they may have about this tragic case.
Anonymous tips can be provided directly to the RCIPS via the Confidential Tip Line at 949-7777 or via the Crime Stoppers website.
“As I have said before, our beautiful country remains one of the safest and most stable places to live in the region. We will not allow a few “bad apples” to restrict our way of life or damage our global reputation,” the Premier stated.
