(CMR) Divonte Hernandez (26) was shot and killed on Sound Way near Shedden Road in George Town this morning, 29 September, while holding his two-year-old child in his arms. CMR understands the child was not hurt during the shooting.
Hernandez was shot in a known “numbers area” under a shed near the parking lot outside Liquor 4 Less.
Reports are that shortly before 10:30 a.m., police and other emergency services were dispatched by the 9-1-1 Communication Centre to a report of a shooting incident reported to have taken place on Sound Way near Shedden Road, George Town.
It was reported that the man sustained gunshot wounds at the location and was taken to George Town Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
Police said initial identification of the victim has taken place, and the family has been informed. RCIPS expresses condolences to the family of the victim.
The suspect in the incident fled the location in a vehicle believed to be a light-colored Honda Fit, heading eastbound towards Rosedale on Crewe Road. A police helicopter was searching the area for the vehicle.
The incident is being investigated by the police, and officers are currently on the scene of the incident. Detectives are appealing for witnesses to urgently come forward, and anyone with information is encouraged to call the Major Incident Room at 649-2930.
Sound Way is currently closed while investigations are underway. More information will be provided later.
