(CMR) Member of Parliament for East End Isaac Rankine has been appointed Minister of Border Control and Labour. He was reportedly sworn in this afternoon, Tuesday, 26 September.
Rankine's appointment comes after the former minister Dwayne Seymour resigned last week. Rankine, who served as deputy speaker of the House of Parliament, resigned from that position earlier Tuesday.
Heather Bodden was appointed deputy speaker Tuesday afternoon after she was the only person nominated for the position.
Hon. Wayne Panton, Premier and Minister for Finance and Economic Development, and Minister for Sustainability and Climate Resiliency, said, “Today, Member of Parliament for East End, Mr. Isaac Rankine, has been appointed by His Excellency the Acting Governor Mr. Franz Manderson as Minister for Border Control and Labour.”
“The rest of the Cabinet and Caucus remain determined to work together for the greater good of our people and the country,” said Premier Panton.
“I am honored and grateful to take on the responsibility of Minister of Border Control and Labour
at this time. I thank the Premier and my colleagues for this expression of their confidence in me. Indeed, I look forward to taking on this challenge and serving the people of the Cayman Islands to the best of my ability,” said MP Rankine.
Premier Panton continued, “With the appointment of MP Rankine, we press forward as we always have. Because the people of this nation need relief and solutions. Let me remind you that this is a government that truly cares for Caymanians. We will continue to offer solutions to the families and people of this country. That will not change.”
