(CMR) The trial of Travis Arlington Ebanks, accused of raping a 10-year-old child on two occasions in the back of his car, started on Tuesday in the Cayman Islands Grand Court.
Ebanks, who denied the allegations, has been charged with two counts of rape, which reportedly took place in October and November 2022.
The child reportedly told police she met Ebanks through Snapchat, where he told her his name was Jeremy and he was 14 years old. She later found out he was older and that his name was Travis.
The court heard that the child blocked Ebanks on social media after he started saying bad things about her friend. However, months later, he continued contacting her through other accounts.
He reportedly threatened to tell her family and friends about the bad things she had been doing if she did not meet with him. He convinced her to meet him in a commercial parking lot, where he raped her in the back of his car.
Ebanks allegedly raped the child on a second occasion in his car but at a different location.
He was arrested in January 2023 in relation to the incidents. He was remanded in custody as trial is expected to continue on Thursday.
