(CMR) Flight delays experienced over the weekend have ended after Cayman Airways Limited (CAL) received an essential piece of equipment for one of its Boeing 737-8 which was out of service.
A CMR source explained that a part needed for the aircraft’s weather radar did not arrive on island earlier in the week as was planned due to a shipping delay. With a full flight weekend, including a chartered flight from Minneapolis, CAL combined two flights on Saturday and arranged sub-service for another. Six flights were delayed on Sunday, including to Miami, Tampa, and Jamaica.
CAL does not usually have a flight to Minneapolis; however, the chartered flight was arranged to transport Caymanian students returning from a football tournament.
CMR understands that the aircraft part arrived in Grand Cayman Sunday evening, and no further delays are expected at this time.
