(CMR) A disgruntled Cayman Airways pilot who allegedly walked off the job has taken to social media demanding that her salary be paid and benefits be reinstated.
“I am hereby demanding the full and immediate payment of my salary accrued from January to the present, along with the complete restoration of my benefits. Additionally, I require a public written apology from every individual involved in the sustained verbal, psychological, and mental abuse I have endured,” Amber Hydes said in a post, tagging Cayman Airways and the Cayman Islands Government.
Hydes said she was arranging a meeting with all members of management implicated in this matter, accompanied by her legal counsel, the Minister of Tourism Kenneth Bryan, and the Premier.
“It is essential to address the systemic hypocrisy and deceit prevalent within Cayman Airways. As a young emerging woman leader who is committed to the well-being of my colleagues, family, and friends, I have recognized and been targeted for pointing out these transgressions. It is imperative that we convene to discuss the true meaning of accountability,” the post added.
In commenting on her post, Hydes directly addressed CAL's CEO, Fabian Whorms, stating that they are not above the law.
When advised against taking the matter to social media, Hydes commented that the issue has been ongoing, and numerous opportunities have been provided for it to be resolved amicably in-house.
“Unfortunately, there's a troubling lack of acknowledgment of any wrongdoing, which is why I'm taking action as I see fit,” she stated, adding that she was not the only one affected.
Hydes said the issue started with first officers being asked to work for extended periods, even on their days off. They were even placed on call before and after their shifts. When it was brought up with those in management, their concerns were brushed aside and not addressed, she explained.
She said one captain threatened her, and she reported the matter; however, instead of addressing the issue, she was paired with this individual, and her concerns were not addressed.
