(CMR) Former auxiliary police constable Courtney Levy (45) was found guilty of threatening a witness to help Roger Bush, who murdered his own son, evade prosecution.
Levy was charged with obstructing the course of justice and breach of trust after he reportedly delivered a threatening message from Bush to the witness to stop her from saying anything. This led to her keeping quiet for more than a year.
Justice Roger Chapple, in handing down the guilty verdict on Wednesday, 19 July, said Levy was Bush’s “willing messenger” and would have succeeded in perverting the course of justice if the witness, Bush’s ex-girlfriend, did not find the courage to come forward.
The witness told the court during Bush’s trial that her ex-boyfriend told her he had killed his son, but she did not give police information initially after an auxiliary police officer, Levy, visited her as she waited in a cell to talk to detectives.
Shaquille Bush was gunned down on 12 November 2019 on Daisy Lane in West Bay. Bush reportedly fired multiple times as he chased his son around their family home and shot him in the head as he lay injured on the floor.
The father, who had several altercations with his son, was arrested for the murder in 2019 but was released shortly after due to a lack of evidence. He was charged in 2021 after the witness came forward.
He was found guilty last year of murdering his son and was sentenced to 33 years in prison.
Levy, who is on bail, will return to court for sentencing on 13 September.
