(CMR) A fisherman was rescued by the US Coast Guard after a shark bit him near the Bahamas on Monday. The man (51) was extracted by a helicopter after a call for help went out from the boat he was on.
The crew aboard the Shear Water reported the man “had been bitten by a shark while fishing and that a tourniquet had been placed on the man's arm to prevent further blood loss.”
The man was reportedly bitten onboard, but it was unclear what sort of shark was involved.
Footage released by the coast guard showed the man being rescued from the moving boat in choppy seas.
“This was the best possible outcome to a truly terrifying situation,” said Sean Connett, command duty officer at US coast guard district seven, in Miami.
“This individual was fortunate a fellow crew member was able to render aid prior to the coast guard's arrival, which allowed for a quick extraction from the vessel.”
