(CMR) A Jamaican pastor was arrested and charged this week after she decided to have a church service despite Prime Minister Andrew Holness's announcement that only 10 people should meet in churches to facilitate online worship.
Christine McLean, the pastor of the City of Refuge Endtime Prophetic Ministries church in Windsor Heights, St Ann, was charged with breaching the Disaster Risk Management Act after the police were called to the worship service.
According to local reports, McLean was conducting a church service with more than 50 congregants.
Most of the congregants were reportedly not wearing masks or observing social-distance protocols and put up resistance when the police asked that the gathering ended.
McLean has not been in agreement with COVID-19 protocols implemented in Jamaica since last year and had continued hosting meetings without observing social distancing or wearing masks.
Last year she said the church had lost its power with a lack of faith hurting the fight against COVID-19.
