(CMR) At least eight killings took place in a 72-hour period pushing Jamaica’s murder tally since the start of the year to 1,161.
The weekend of carnage kicked off when the bodies of three St Ann men were found in a bullet riddle car on the Tobolski main road.
Reports are that three men were travelling in the car at around 3:30 p.m. when they met their demise.
The men have since been identified as 22-year-old Brandon Williams, 18-year-old Romario Higgins, also called ‘Bashie’; and Herman Wilson. Two of the men were residents of Gibraltar district in Watt Town.
A double murder occurred in Whitfield Town late Saturday when two individuals, said to be neighbours, were gunned down in front of their yards.
While details remain limited, it is understood that the incident occurred around 3:00p.m. and resulted in the death of 30 year-old Nordia Downer and 37-year-old Dwanye Grant.
On Sunday (November 22) the murder of a 81-year-old grandmother and her two children rocked the nation.
Local media reports are that at 3:30 p.m. the elderly woman and her grandchildren were at home in the yard, when gunmen approached and shot them. Two others who were inside the home sustained minor injuries.
The bloodshed continued on Monday(November 23) when two murders took place in the St Catherine South Police division.
22-year-old Kassem Angus and 49-year-old Janice Ellison-Reid were shot and killed by unknown assailants in separate incidents .
Despite the lack of evidence to support the effectiveness of the states of emergency (SOEs) as a crime-fighting tool, Police Commissioner, Major General Antony Anderson, has continued to tout the necessity of the measure.
