(CMR) Tropical Storm Iota formed on Friday (November 13), it is the 30th named storm of the 2020 hurricane season.
Iota, previously called tropical depression #31, was said to be 500 miles south-southeast of Kingston, Jamaica.
The storm is expected to move westward over Jamaica's southern waters over the next few days.
While, Jamaica is not directly threatened by the system it is expected to be impacted by its outer bands.
According to the Met Service, Iota is expected to strengthen into a hurricane as it moves towards the central Caribbean.
“On the forecast track, the system will move across the central Caribbean Sea during the next day or so, and approach the coasts of Nicaragua and northeastern Honduras late Sunday and Monday,” said a forecasters from the Meteorological Service of Jamaica.
Hurricane watches are expected to go into effect for some countries in Central American nations shortly.
