(CMR) The National Weather Service said the Cayman Islands will likely not be placed under any watch or warning at this time as a potential tropical storm moves across the Caribbean.
The National Hurricane Center began issuing advisories of Potential Tropical Cyclone 22. At 4 p.m., this storm was located some 282 miles South of Grand Cayman and about 365 miles west-southwest of Kingston, Jamaica.
The storm is moving towards the NNE at 9 mph with sustained maximum winds near 35 mph. At this time, the forecast track takes the storm over Jamaica by tomorrow night. Residents are urged to monitor the progress of this storm.
On the current projection, the closest the storm is anticipated to be from Grand Cayman is about 221 miles to the SE around 11 a.m. tomorrow. By tomorrow night, the storm should remain about 172 miles SE of Cayman Brac. This system may support some showers across the Cayman area, but a decrease in cloudiness and showers are expected from tomorrow evening as the system moves into the Atlantic by Saturday.
The Cayman Islands National Weather Service will continue to monitor the developments of this system and any impacts it might have on the Cayman Islands.
