(CMR) Hurricane Eta proved extremely deadly for Central America as one of the most powerful hurricanes to hit Central America in years. Dozens are predicated dead with at least 100 persons confirmed dead in Guatemala with more missing. The death toll is expected to continue rising after Hurricane Eta made landfall Tuesday afternoon as a Category 4 storm.
Cayman residents are preparing for relief efforts to begin in earnest for people in Honduras including the Lions Club of Cayman Brac and Joel Brown.
Honduras has at least 13 dead. In northwestern Honduras said the Ulua River reached a flood level of almost 52 feet near in the city of Chinda in the province of Santa Barbara. That's more than 13 feet higher than the level recorded in 1998 when Hurricane Mitch killed more than 9,000 people in Central America.
The U.S. National Hurricane Center forecast that parts of Nicaragua and Honduras could receive 15 to 25 inches (380 to 635 millimeters) of rain, with 40 inches (1,000 millimeters) possible in some isolated parts.
Mudslides have killed numerous families who were buried in their homes whilst others were washed away by floodwaters. At least 450 homes were also destroyed by the floodwaters.
A hurricane relief effort and fundraiser has been organized for departure for La Ceiba on 14th November and 19th November. Items most urgently needed are
