(CMR) Members of the security forces in Jamaica were seen conducting a COVID-19 operation on the Hellshire Main Road in Portmore, St Catherine yesterday afternoon to enforce their most recent pandemic curfew restrictions.
The new curfew was tightened for the Heroes Weekend and persons could be seen detained for breaching the 3 p.m. curfew now in effect. The daily curfew is from 3 p.m. to 8 a.m. daily until Tuesday.
The Jamaican security forces set up a traffic checkpoint to see why persons were in breach of the rules. A long line of cars was observed traveling in the area and being backed up after the checkpoint began. Videos and photos were in wide circulation on social media of the incident with police taking some persons directly patty wagon that was on hand for the occasion.
Jamaica continues to struggle with its handling of the covid outbreak with 173 persons confirmed dead as of Monday morning pushing the total to 8,321 with 4,084 being active. 171 persons are currently hospitalized with 46 being moderately ill and 12 critically ill.
