(CMR) The Ant-Corruption Unit was kept busy this week with another arrest; this time of a female prison officer.
Sources have informed Cayman Marl Road that prison officer Yvrose Barton was arrested around Wednesday in relation to a contract matter she had engaged in with government. Our sources are unsure of the exact arrest category being alleged but it relates to some rental property that the prison officer owns.
The contract was entered into whilst the government was renovating the accommodations for the Cuban detainees at the Fairbanks facility late last year.
Apparently, she had offered to house the Cubans at her rental property off Marina Drive in Prospect. She was to provide three rooms for three men at the cost of CI$1,500.00 per month for the accommodations.
However, she made at least two the detainees were made to share a room and continued to charge government the agreed upon price for the three rooms. Eventually, the two men had a disagreement and complained about having to share the room. It was then brought to the attention of the authorities. She was previously questioned by the police and was then arrested this past Wednesday. This was at least the third arrest this week by the Anti-Corruption Unit who admits to being very busy these days. We understand Barton's ex-husband is also a prison officer and she is originally from Haiti but has been living here for some time; and was married to a Caymanian previously. She has been a prison officer for around 17-years.
