RUMOR: Cayman Marl Road was reliably informed on Friday that a student at John Gray High School assaulted a teacher last week.
Initial reports were that on Friday a student was arrested by police around 2:00-3:00 p.m. The rumor also said that a wrench was used to assault the teacher.
TRUE: CMR contacted the RCIPS but received no response to our query.
However since then a video has emerged on social media confirming the story and assault which took place on Thursday. Apparently the incident can be seen in the video and the senior member of staff has reportedly been seriously assaulted. While the video does not show any wrench being used it does look like a rather hands-on altercation.
The student can be seen repeatedly punching the man while a security officer attempts to pull the student off the man. The faculty member can be seen removing his undershirt in the video.
It is also alleged that a Year 11 student who recorded the altercation was approached by the principal on Friday to hand over the cellphone and he was slapped by the student in the face. That student has also been arrested.
UPDATE From RCIPS: “On Thursday, 8 February, just past 9:30AM, officers responded to John Gray High School to a report of an assault. An employee at the school had been hit in the head with an object by a student, a male juvenile. The boy was arrested on suspicion of assault in the presence of his parent and taken to the Detention Centre, where he was later bailed. The victim received minor injuries and was not taken to the hospital.”
