(CMR) An infant under the age of one is among the 21 new positive cases as of Friday morning. This brings the total number of children hospitalized to two. Though hospitalized, “both children are not in need of support with breathing,” according to Chief Medical Officer, Dr. John Lee. The hospitalized adult is also doing well.
As of 9 a.m. Friday, 8 October, there have been 763 PCR tests processed since the last report on Thursday, 7 October. Of these, there are 21 positive test results from the community, including 16 children.
All of the new cases were in unvaccinated people from community transmission. There are 148 confirmed active cases, three hospitalized, and 145 who do not need hospitalization. So far, 810 people have recovered after testing positive.
To date, there have been 108,614 COVID-19 vaccinations given in total in the Cayman Islands. Of these, 55,530 (78% of 71,106) have had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and 52,822 (74%) have completed the two-dose course. Additionally, 262 (0%) have had a third or booster dose.
