(CMR) His Excellency Martyn Roper, governor of the Cayman Islands, has announced via social media that he and his wife have tested positive for COVID-19.
“On Good Friday, I tested positive for Covid, following Lissie, who tested positive a few days earlier. I’m pleased to say that other than some generally mild symptoms (a sore throat, slightly stuffy nose), we are both doing well and feeling fine,” Governor Roper wrote.
“Without our booster shots, things could, of course, have been a lot worse. The vaccinations the UK provided have helped many across our islands avoid serious illness and, even worse, saving countless precious lives,” he added.
The governor also used his post to encourage persons who have not yet been vaccinated or have not received their booster shot to do so as soon as possible as it could make all the difference to their health.
Mr. Roper also announced that a fourth booster dose is available to anyone over 18 who received their third shot more than six months ago.
“The health experts tell us that a fourth dose can also protect against infection from the new Omicron variant BA2, whereas six months after the booster, there is little protection from infection (but the vaccines/boosters do continue to provide strong protection against serious illness or death),” the governor added.
Mr. Roper said he is working from home, and this included attending the National Trust Conference via zoom yesterday.
“This morning, I have had Teams meetings with the Police Commissioner and numerous other telephone calls. We both hope to be released from isolation in the next few days,” he said.
